Lawyers Who Fight for the Rights of Workers Across Alabama
Your job is one of the most important aspects of your life; however, discrimination and wrongful terminations in the workplace have become exceedingly common. Our attorneys can help you navigate through the complex laws at both the federal and state levels, along with claims brought through the EEOC. Many times, workers are unaware of their rights concerning the workplace or how to begin the process.
Generally workplace discrimination will fall under one of the following statutes:
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was one of the first major comprehensive civil rights legislation passed and protects discrimination in employment based on race, color, sex, national origin, and religion.
Equal Pay Act prohibits pay discrimination on the basis of sex.
Age Discrimination in Employment Act prohibits discrimination in any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training, benefits, and any other term or condition of employment for workers 40 years of age or older.
Americans with Disability Act prohibits discrimination based on a qualifying disability. This act also could require your employer to provide you with a reasonable accommodation to allow you to perform your job.
The Alabama Age Discrimination in Employment Act prohibits employers with 20 or more employees from discriminating against employees and applicants who are 40 years of age or older.
